An important part of WRUG's remit is the development of long term aspirations to
improve the lot of existing and potential new rail users in Wharfedale. Top of the
current list must be expanding peak-hour capacity to Leeds, but there are a wide
range of other improvements which are needed:
• to give more accessible, safe and
welcoming environment for passengers.
• to encourage greater use of public transport
in the light of concerns over climate change.
• to satisfy regular users in a situation
where fares are set to rise around 7% per annum.
On our Franchise Aspiration Page
you can see the range of detailed targets and improvements we consider necessary
to meet users' needs. Given the current constraints within which Northern and Metro
have to work; and the lack of any national strategy for developing a genuinely integrated
public transport network; they are unlikely to be achieved in full within the existing
Franchise, but that should not stop us trying to work towards them.
Your comments are very welcome; please let the Secretary, Peter Johnson, know whether these aspirations meet your demands or if you feel there are things we have missed.
