Wharfedale Rail Users' Group
|
Please read our new 2007 Newsletter (see below) to get an update of what is happening on our Line and the actions we want to see taken to improve all our journeys. We are hoping to issue our 2008 Newsletter in mid/late September. Look out for it at your local station. What does WRUG want for our Line's Users? An important part of WRUG's remit is the development of long term aspirations to improve the lot of existing and potential new rail users in Wharfedale. Top of the list currently must be expanding peak-hour capacity to Leeds, but there are a wide range of other improvements which are needed:
On our Franchise Aspiration Page you can see the range of detailed targets and improvements we consider necessary to meet users' needs. Given the current constraints within which Northern and Metro have to work, and the lack of any national strategy for developing a genuinely integrated public transport network, they are unlikely to be achieved in full within the existing Franchise, but that should not stop us trying to work towards them. Your comments are very welcome; please let the Secretary, Peter Johnson, know whether these aspirations meet your demands or if you feel there are things we have missed. Peter Johnson More information about train times and general news:
Metro's website includes a Travel Planner giving timetables for bus and rail journeys in West Yorkshire. Northern Rail, our local train operator, has a website www.northernrail.org giving contact details and current news about its operations.Alternatively, for nationwide information on all modes of public transport, try Traveline If you would like more practical information about using Britain's railways, or seek information about the overall direction and management of the rail industry, or just simply want to use the train to take a leisurely trip to Europe, visit WRUG's Handy Links page. |
